All of Those Weeds
Welcome February 2020 and welcome clover. As children we loved looking for 4-leaf clovers. Some might even think of spring time when clover emerges, I think of breaking my back pulling every piece. There's also that famous yellow wildflower "Butterweed" that overtakes my flowerbeds at this time of the year.
Did you know that a little bit of proactive weeding and feeding can rid you of these pesky grasses and weeds?
Check out any home and garden section at your local store and you can find brands such as Preen, Scott's and more. Remember to read directions thoroughly and pay attention to the timing of application. Next year those weeds will be a thing of the past.
Here's a link to some information from the LSU Ag Center on how to control weeds.

Some Tips for Applying Fertilizer:
When Should I Fertilize My Yard?
We live in a sub-tropical zone. This means that your grass is likely a warm season grass such as St. Augustine or Centipede grass. These grasses will usually get brown during the winter season and start actively growing again during early spring.
Depending on the condition of your lawn, you may have lots of weeds such as crabgrass and/or clover. So a weed and feed application may be the way to go. These are typically applied to the lawn in late winter or early spring. If you want to prevent the weeds from emerging late winter is your best bet. Be sure to read directions carefully before applying to your lawn. Don't over apply as it may cause damage to your lawn.
If your lawn is weed free then a fertilizer may be all that is needed. Fertilizer to encourage a strong and healthy lawn is typically applied in the spring time.
